Petrolern will receive research funding as a team member of the University of Nevada, Reno, led INGENIOUS project. Petrolern’s efforts will be led by Dr. Joseph Batir and will focus on thermal resource favorability mapping. The goal of the INGENIOUS project is to reduce exploration risk associated with hidden geothermal systems in the Great Basin Region through improved geothermal play fairway analysis methodology. Heat flow is used as an input to geothermal play fairway analysis as a proxy for thermal favorability, where high heat flow suggests high thermal favorability, although this is not always the case. As part of the play fairway methodology improvement process, Petrolern will be working to advance the present-day heat flow mapping methodology into a new thermal resource prediction mapping.
